Meet the Team
I grew up in Whangarei, attended Pony Club and competed in most disciplines to a low level. I studied to become a Production Animal Technician earning Top spot of the year.
By that time I'd figured out working with dairy cows wasn't my thing, so I went on to work in a retraining yard, horse stud and saddlery.
In 2016 I was given the opportunity to start a 3 year full time saddle fitting apprenticeship (through the prestigious Society of Master Saddlers England) with The National Saddle Center NZ. During the apprenticeship I travelled to England several times for courses and exams, and had the invaluable opportunity of working 'on the benches' with Master Saddle makers. In 2023 after covid had blowen over I went back to England to sit my final exams, I am now a fully qualified Society of Master Saddlers Saddle Fitter (one of only a few in NZ).
Because we can never stop learning, particularly when working with horses AND riders, I attended the Saddle Fit for Life Certified Equine Ergonomist course in Australia in 2019 with Jochen Schleese lecturing.
In my spare time I enjoy going on beach rides and doing low level competitions on my horse Barbie.
I am Sylvie's co-pilot most days out saddle fitting. I supervise in between long naps on the front seat of the van, and enjoy a bath in a water trough/ pond/ bog hole after chasing my tennis ball.
My area of expertise is deflocking, it's not quite how Sylvie does it as I do it my own special way so that the roll of wool is 'deflocked' (pulled apart!) before it goes into the saddle.
If you see me at your appointment I would be very appreciative of a pat.... or several.
